i really enjoyed this post at the exponent II today, and especially the comments.

really made me think a lot.

not to be cliche or anything, but..."the only thing constant is change." how true.

I am a 'Jack Mormon'..haven't been consistantly to church in over 7 years. I drink coffee, & alcohol. I swear like a trucker..and I don't tell people I'm LDS, because, quite frankly, I'm a very poor example of what a 'good mormon' is. I don't consider myself a bad person, but I would hate to give someone unfamiliar w/ the LDS religion the wrong impression. Lately I have been actively avoiding anything related to the church..I'm just not at a point in my life where I feel ready to immerse myself back into it..but reading your blog has brought some interesting religous points back to my mind. So I just want to tell you I appreciate that.
ALSO..
I enjoyed reading this 'exponent'..thank you for bringing it to my attention...it seems that many people, especially in the LDS culture, do not realize quite what they are signing up for when they get married. They marry relatively young before they recognize who they themselves are. Then they are sorely shocked when it becomes obvious that their spouse is, indeed, their own person who will make their own decisions. I think the succesful marriages are the ones that realize that marriage is not a 'walk in the park'. There will be changes, there will be transitions, & you have to work with each other consistantly & constantly to get through it all. This is how love grows. And through it all TRUST is the key component. I could go on & on about this subject..but I won't bore you with that :) I just wish I could tell all the kids getting hitched out there that in the end friendship & love will trump 99.9% of problems..you have to learn to accept someone for who they are & pick your battles!

i'm really glad that my ramblings have been able to give you a different perspective in your life. i know that you will be able to make the best decision for you--whether that is to be a part of the church (and to what degree) or to not. as i've gotten older i've found that for many people being a part of the lds church is detrimental to them. and for others, it is the best thing they have. i think at this point in my life i'm somewhere in the middle, probably leaning more toward the church than not.

and thank you for your perspective on the exponent article--it really affected me so i thought that if it could help someone else it would be a good idea to post it!

thanks for your insight!
